Lights Up is Wheathampstead Parish Council's opening event for the festive season. Santa, market stalls, entertainment and games all surround the turning on of the Christmas Lights in the High Street at the end of November.

LIGHTS UP 2024

This year's Lights Up was the biggest and best one yet!

There were over 30 stalls along the High Street and Station Road plus food and drink vendors and, of course, the ever popular Santa's Grotto and Animal Nativity. There were funfair rides and Village & Co's artisan market returned, but this time in the car park of The Bull.

The Christmas lights were switched on at 6pm following Santa's tour down the High Street

We had a packed evening of entertainment, with carols from the school choirs and The Lady of Lourdes church choir. Elara Jagger, Lara Curtis and Ritchie McCabe all took to the mic to perform some classic Christmas hits.

LIGHTS UP 2023

The weather was on our side as Wheathampstead came together to celebrate the start of the festive season.

Lights Up had a bit of a makeover in 2023, with Station Road being closed off for the first time to allow for more stalls and entertainment to extend down from the High Street. Santa kicked proceedings off as usual as he came down the High Street on his sleigh, stopping off the the WPC tent to present our poster competition winners with their prizes. He then spent the rest of the evening in his splendid grotto listening to all the Christmas wishes Wheathampstead's children had for Christmas.

Village & Co returned with their artisan market in the Crinkle Crankle Community Garden, the High Street was jam packed with stalls from local charities and community groups plus there was amazing entertainment from an ice queen, BSV Community Jazz band and Martyn Shone plus carols from the primary schools and Clover Choir. Needless to say, there were plenty of festive treats on offer, from crepes to waffles, hot chocolate to mulled wine.
